I’m an Afro-Norsq artist born on the harbor edge of the largest freshwater portal to the underworld — Gitchi-gaami Lake Superior. I tell stories that honor and restore knowledge of my not-so-ancient ancestors who practiced magic rooted in reciprocity, reverence for Great Nature and the Great Mystery of the Universe.
Making use of found materials, botanicals, wood, wool, beeswax, sound, light, and lunar cycles, I alchemize the everyday ordinary into a world of tingling sensitivity.
Since 2021, I’ve been developing rituals around the communion, harvesting, carving, and documenting of endemic and introduced tree species in forests around Minnesota and Wisconsin. Using silicone I make archival molds of carvings that are recast in beeswax.
This constantly evolving project called boyboyblackbear tells the story of a boy who woke up as a bear and is learning the ancient wisdom of fire and knives.
